My understanding was this, even with open headers (drag cars at the track) after they would be done with their run, all the cool air (from outside) would go inside the collector end of the header and and go up to the primaries and kool the valves faster than the rest of the head, meaning they would expand faster while the seat is still the original size and warp. Why the old timers would always stuff socks in their collectors after they turned the beasts off. Course this I heard from a friend of mine who helped me completely with my first engine build. Makes sence to me but like I said I do not know if thats true. Just makes sence so ya. D*mn you again arch

the reason for the socks was when the engine was off the valves are hot, and the open headers are open to cool air so it's half true
