Coszmin, what the hell are ya talking bout? Back then it cost big huge bucks to sail across from Europe and really only those smart and strong enough to survive in the new world came over. Not untill North America was well settled did ppl of all classes come over. "Yes your Majesty, all the prostitutes and the poor have left England" <-- lolz. Can you say Hockey-basketball-snow mobiles-electric stoves-fog horns-kerosene-lacross-machine gun tracer bullets (those things light up sweeeet)-pacemakers-standard time-Super Man-the fukking telephone-electron microscope-OHIP and other health care across Canada-and loads of other things. We have our own way of speaking, Canadians are recognized worldwide and that wouldnt be possible if Canadians and Canada didnt exist.
North America in general created all sorts of cultural and sub-cultural things, genres of music-cowboys-CARS-..........
If I need to tell ya all the things, then maybe yer not a real Canadian and you might consider leaving if ya dont like it here so much.
What diff does it make how old Canada is? Isreal only just turned 60 this year, so should ppl imigrate there and tell them what to do? Rep Power: 673 WOW, didn't realise that even other nationalties were seeing this too. Alot of these points are valid. The goverment is handing out citizenships like candy lately. I have grown up with some different nationalities and got to learn some different cultures. But some of these people that are coming here should never have been allowed in to Canada. My inlaws migrated here is the 50's. They had to work hard to make it here. They started off in Toronto and slowly moved further north. He bought a piece of land that no one wanted and built his own house with the connections that he made in the construction trade in the '60's. It has gotten to the point now where the white Canadians are starting to become an minority in their own country. Not that I have a real problem with these people, but it seems that we are starting to cater to them and their religions. I know that they don't cater to use when we move to their countries. We have to obey their rules and religions in their country. Why can't they convert to ours? They have already taken out the lords prayer from schools, they have started to limit christmas activities. What else are we going to lose that we have done for generations. Look at all the gas stations, the corner stores and donut shops. Its rare to find any white people running them now. Almost every time you call a goverment office, you get some new Canadian that can barely speak english or understand it. I am not saying these people should get jobs at these offices, but they should be in Canada several years before they get them, not hop off the boat and be in these jobs 6 months later. Just my opinion.
Even the hospitals and all our health care is suffering from this too , people bringing their sick parents and other relatives to canada for the free health care!!! I used to work at Etobicoke General and its amazing how many patients are Indian !!!!! I'm an immigrant too but I just think things are getting a little too out of hand now.

Hey 1skycord - I dont think that anyones complaining about who the immigrants are, the consensus seems to be that ppl are tired of immigrants comming here and demanding things (demanding their own laws [Shari or however its spelled] stealing from the system [healthcare a major one], and so on, looking for a free ride, mooching the system, etc... and NOT trying to assimilate, but rather trying to force us to meld to their ways.
I think most ppl here (like me) are perfectly fine with anyone from any race, any religion, any background comming to Canada. We all have freinds from every ethniticity, so that aint the issue.
Part of the problem are our own politicians.
Past waves of immigrants assimilated, worked hard, endured a lot. Present waves are trying to change Canada to suit their ways rather than them changing to suit Canadas ways.
And the hospital thing in Brampton. One reason so many Indians got together and donated was cuz so many of them live there, just like in Georgetown (and to the north west) so many farmers got together and donated is cuz thats what the demographics are in those areas. Every visible group of any type get together,work together and get things done.
BTW, that hospital was also over budget by tens of millions of dollars, if not hundreds of millions (total end cost is est at 3 Billion). Its also a Private Public Partnership which means that a part of the hospital is NOT for everyone, and guess which part most of the money raised went to. Not that the indian contractor did this, but its common in the industry, to make a donation on very large projects and them "win" the contract to build, earning 5 million in the process (so $500,000 is nothing compared) plus then they allways over run (legally allowed at 10%. Hmm, 10% of 5 mill is a half mill, just what buddy donated, so, was it indeed a donation? who knows, maybe.
90% of immigrants university educated? By what standards? I thought theres loads of immigrants reunifying with thier families who are un-educated, loads of refugees who have zero education, list goes on.
Should immigrants learn our rules of the road and drive like us, or should we start driving like the immigrants from their "homelands" cuz thats what they are used to - all over the roads, 5 cars wide in 3 lanes

I understand where everyone comes from, my parents have also assimilated into society, I am a Canadian and proud of it. I just think its wrong to make a generalized statement about all immigrants when its not all immigrants or just Indian immigrants, but some immigrants including Indians that make a bad name for all other immigrants. Most people come here in search of a better life for them and there families.
An otherwise extremely rare and educational thread, I enjoyed the discussions, i just hope no one here takes any of my comments or anyone elses seriously or offensively, i know I don't. I just think this is healthy conversation.

u think the gov did a study and found "90% of Indian immigrants come to Canada with a University degree" my girlfriend is 1 of them and everyone in her family who came here and there were a bunch didnt finish high school . most of her friends and there family r in the same boat . dont try and pass someones elses lies off as facts . u dont know !

Yea in 3rd world countries it's even easier to get false information I go to India and I can become whoever the fudge I want. I could say I was born there and lived there my whole life graduated University at 16 probably all for like $50. Look at the USA problem right now over 50 Million illegal immigrants, most of these they just walk right across the border, they pay a few hundred and buy themselves a new life, a lot of them have multiple American identities cashing multiple welfare cheques a month. And USA is no 3rd world country. As you can see it is much to easy to become whoever you want.
Canada is Aboriginal and European background (most will realize they are a combination of this if they have long ancestry in Canada) this is what makes up our country and those immigrating here can assimilate to either of these two cultures.

i was at square one yesterday. i was with my buddy he is black i told him to look around and count how many white people he could see, we where in the food court. he was maybe able to count like 10. it was kinda gross i have nuthing wrong with ne race as i have freinds from them all but its getting out of hand. Thy biggest part is how they want Canada to change for them.

I left canada in 2006 for Europe and I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good . About the natives man ... go to any government housing , where most true canadians live and they will all tell you : I'm half irish , quarter native and quarter scotish . Hockey was invented by the americans , and basketball ... is only played in canada and the us , other 200 or so countries prefer football. Bell was born in Europe , and health care in canada is kind of shitty when compared to what we get in europe. Healthcare in canada is only good compared to the US.
Other things you are talking about, they are fairly new like snow mobiles , etc. But think about it , there are countries in Europe that trace their history back 2000 years, meanwhile canada barely has 100. Snow mobiles and other modern things could not have been invented in canada, without the great history and achievements of Europe. Real 100% authentic canadian things are probably ... i dunno ... leather underwear that is used as the entire person's outfit ? bow and arrow ? ( if even that ? ) ... dances that bring rain ? leaves as toilet paper ? drinking and gambling ( joking but look at the west end , brantford area if you know what i mean )
The current modern world as we know it HAS BEEN BUILT IN EUROPE BY EUROPEANS . The civilized parts of canada and the us are only , themselves , products of Europe.

if i remember correctly, when I was living in Canada, I also had the same mentality, I wanted the country to change for me.
Now i live in europe, not in my native country, and I do THE BEST I CAN, to change and live like the hungarians do. When I stay in Holland, I try to act and live like the dutch. I never go over 120 kmph on the dutch highways , and in budapest, I drive 80 kmph in the city because everyone else does this.
but Holland for example is an amazing country . few hundred years ahead of canada. It would be a sacrilege for an outsider to go into holland and tell them " you need to do things this way " . But in canada , everybody is an outsider , and at the same time , the system REALLY sux . So obviously people would have opinions .
Respect is earned not given .
