I think the civic makes for a great base platform.
It's light, handles good, makes decent power, and looks good. The potential is there, clearly.
For under 20k I would mod a civic anyday. Not many cars that compare to a civic, and offer what it can. Its reputaton has been hurt by the rice crowd, but not as badly as neons and cav's. Plus there are clean looking civics out there. Same can't be said for neon's or cav's.

But the thing to remember is "TO EACH HIS OWN". A car is a direct reflection of somebody. It may not suit you, but it could be a perfect fit for someone else. So go and do something positive, instead of flaming other peoples choices.

Racing or modding a civic is just as bad as doing the same to a j-body. Both are econo cars.

A proper up to date comparison of bottom of the barell econo cars would prolly be the Cobalt. Maybe even the G6 in which case the civic looses on both accounts.

Not really, you actually have a decent performing car after you've modified a Civic (properly, not like the average rice you see). I don't think you can say the same for the J-body. The Civic chassis is better, dual wishbone suspension in the front, multiple link in the rear, better brakes, better engine choices. How can you say the J-body is comparable?

here we go. just because you dont see well performing j's on this site, doesnt mean there isnt any; hell there prob isnt an well performing civics here. and no, a hatchback with a b16 isnt a well performing one. yes, youre 100% right, a j can never be fast, good looking, this, that, and whatever...happy?

The 06 Civic si just won the "best sports car" in Canada AJAC award. It even beat out the new Z06 Corvette, because the Z06 didn't have a back seat.
It must be the Canada's best car. I'm saving up for mine now.

I've been around these stupid websites and the "scene" for a few years now, and I can honestly say that I've never seen a respectable J-body. I'm not saying this because I'm trying to trash talk it, I'm saying it because it's the truth. I guess you live in some magical fairy land where there are fast J-bodies.

I drive a Cavalier, it sucks. That being said it doesn't bring heat like a Civic does if I'm in the wrong part of Toronto or the GTA.
