I just don't like how they crushing people's cars! jail time, tickets etc.. but why are you destroying other people's property????

think about it this way.. rapists! lets smash their *****'s! marijuana houses, smash crush their houses, DRUNK DRIVING (causes more death than racing) smash their cars!, Murderer's! KILL THEM! If you going to break street racing ***** so much, why don't you friggin lay the rest of the laws, it'll make people not offend twice!!

pass those laws!! they contribute more deaths than street racing will ever! 10deaths a year for the past 6 years for racing... how many DUI's, rapes, murders happen in the past 6 years!?

If they reinstating death penalty for murders, chopping off rapissts ballz off... iam down FOR CRUSHING RACING CARS! i just want hte world to know what issue is more SEVERE!

BTW ur a cop arn't you?

If you get caught committing B&E with tools, the tools are seized and scrapped following trial. If you commit assault or murder with a weapon, knife, gun, hammer, screw driver, anything at all, the item used is seized and destroyed following trial.

If you are convicted of a crime that involves the use of a motor vehcile, and the vehicle is found to have been the facilitator of that crime, whether it be street racing or trying to deliberately run someone down with the car, the car can be seized and disposed of in any manner they see fit following your conviction. In that sense it is no different than taking away someone's burglary tools or items used to inflict violence.

If you want to keep your property, do not use that property to commit serious crimes. Simple as that. If you use it to commit serious crime, you forfeit your right to keep it, even if it happens to be your car.

By the way, you can also lose your car if you try to smuggle undeclared goods into the country with it. Nobody even needs to be physically hurt in the process, but the car can be just as gone gone gone as if you had killed someone with it.

Wasnt it flava flave that said dont believe the hype .. FF3 is coming out . News( propoganda) media has constant running all of a sudden stories about flaming street racing deaths.Feds are cranking up the election machines . G wing and the likes of him on 2 other sites I go on are typing fast an furiously till their fingers bleed.Funny cops /feds are getting allabout protecting society ,from criminal drivers but wont give me the name or address of the retired cdn airforce/retired opp veteran who drunk driving run a red light killed a friend of mine a while back . Told his family they would post a gaurd/cop at courthouse doors if family memebers tried to get in .
2 tiered justice is here. Ive never seen anyone hurt at a meet , but feds know the best headlines , get best media/propoganda coverage .
Isnt it supposed to be innocent until proven guilty?
I f i decide to take the old lady out for some dairy queen and a tour down by the beach in my street car.Am i gonna get busted, and for what exactly. What is the intent or proof of intent to commit a crime in a drive to d/q and the beach on a hot august nite ..77.

Most of us are veterans on this subject so we usually think before acting.

Most kids are not though... Since the media is pushing the racer so hard, these younger folks who just got into the game only knows that "you're f*cked" if you ever get caught streetracing. When they flee from the cops, they don't think about anything else except for the media that has been "brainwashed" into their minds. It's getting as bad as "it's either flee, or die".

But in reality, even I would actually try running away if streetracing becomes such a serious crime. At least I have a chance to get away clean. All depending on the situation of course, because it's not like I would start going 200 km/h on Yonge and whip through traffic to escape. But keyword being "the default action", and my default move would be trying to find some place to run away if I ever had a cop trying to pull me over instead of abiding the law and being a good citizen and pull over.

Think of these few cases of streetracing related deaths. The main reason why the media and cops have someone to point the finger at comes from the fact that we citizens were responsible and were law abiding in a way. The DelSol that was involved at the crash @ Stouffville (which was undamaged) stayed behind and didn't go anywhere. He was responsible in a way that he rather fess up with a streetracing charge (not knowing the serious consequences yet) rather than a hit & run (known to be serious currently) and in hopes to call EMS to save those involved in the crash. The Mercedes in the Porsche accident actually drove back to the scene and then he was questioned. Again, the Mercedes owner didn't want to leave the scene of the accident completely and was responsible by coming back.

I am quite interested to see if they end up finding anything related to the Corvette accident. Witness saw two other vettes, but seriously, to identify them and then prove that they were racing is virtually impossible. I put my money that the ower of the silver vette (best wishes to him) would say that he wasn't racing anyone. It would become a simple high speed accident and it would be inconclusive. This is for rare cars like vettes; imagine two Accords racing, or a Grand Am and an Intrepid, it becomes even more impossible to find these guys.

I am afraid soon enough, hit & run is actually the "better choice"; and everytime you see a streetracing related accident or even a highspeed accident involving a souped up car (that is seriously discriminated by the media), the other car that is still capable of leaving the scene would rather run away instead of being faced with a serious streetracing charge if they stayed like they should.

It's the same deal with DUI... We all know that 100% all the DUI involved in an accident would always flee and run away. But what's keeping them from running away is the fact that they are drunk, their car is ruined, and when they get caught, there is concrete evidence proving that the driver was drunk during that state of time.

If I was racing another car, and the car I was racing with completely anihiliates another car doing a left turn. Once I run away, I am clean. It gets to the point that being responsible by staying behind bites you back HARD. There is nothing that can go against me other than maybe a few witnesses (if any) identifying a very common car, and because I am undamaged, nor drunk and there is zero concrete evidence proving that my "state of mind" was racing. Who's to bust my *****? As harsh and irresponsible as the above sounds, that's what these tougher laws and media exposure is turning every car enthusiast into.

Very nicely put Tony T....... This is gonna cause so much trouble, especially tonight after people get out of the F&F3. We thought it was bad with just Project "E.R.A.S.E.".....I'm sorry to say fokes, this is just the beginning. I understand that the government wants to step in and do something about this street racing "problem" but this isn't the way about it.

I think its time for everyone to trade in there performance cars for some Kia's and Pickup Trucks

Well these new laws are just going to make everyone think twice about flashy cars, huge mufflers and spoilers and like what ..77. said people will go back to the sleeper look..but the thing that really screws more of the younger demographic over (25 Under) is that most of the cars that they start saving up for and can afford that actually look descent civic, integra, eclipse are already pretty much getting raped by insurance companies, and regardless or not if your car is modded once police see the common cars with younger drivers you automatically get pulled over Ive seen this and fell victim to this a number of times..So god forbid the police see my *shiny* intake which would qualify me for instant streetracer status and the privillage to see my 2year savings investment (My vehicle) being smashed to nothing along with a formal get together with judge..Not trying to say that eliminating street racing cant work I just feel that they are going about this in the wrong way in the end regardless of what they do streetracers will just find another way to get around the system and unfortunatly thats the truth.

With the new law prposed by Frank klees you will be guilty until proven innocent. The government of ontario is saying that a modified vehicle is a street race car. the government wants you to be a good worker be and just go to work and pay your taxes and do nothing else unless they approve.

Guess the majority of Ontario voted for the wrong PM uh..

GLDWNGR, why are you ignoring the points of DUI, Murders and rapists? talking about committing B&E with tools and smuggling shiet with your car.

would it make you feel better if racers put up a sign like this?

yeah in ny your car is impounded for 30 days at your expense and then on your third offense your car is crushed into a cube. if your still leasing your car, well congratulations you have to still make payments on your cube. i think its much more fair that what the government is trying to do now (ie 3 strike system / non criminal VS mandatory jail time each offense/ felony). who knows maybe the americans are good for something and we can take a page out of their traffic laws

American citizens don't put up with from their government, unlike us Canadians.

Car no racer, past owner saysCrushed by cops
By MICHELE HENRY, TORONTO SUN

With only 120 horsepower, the blue car destroyed by York police this week as a warning against street racing was hardly the ferocious speedster it was made out to be, its former owner says.

Ray Martin claims the 1995 Honda CX, one of two cars pictured on the Sun's front page after being reduced Thursday to hunks of metal by police, was the one he bought for $18,500 in 1996.

CONVICTION

Martin said it has been sitting in an impound lot since a few months after his 2004 conviction of racing a motor vehicle.

"I know it's my car -- I bought all the parts and did most of the work," said the 26-year-old, who attached $17,000 worth of mainly cosmetic add-ons to the vehicle, which started out as a 73-horsepower automatic when it left the lot.

"I detailed the car twice a week with a tooth brush."

Martin didn't watch as York police supervised the tractor that demolished his one-inch lowered car and a second white vehicle, or as Chief Armand LeBarge posed triumphantly beside the new wreckage to send a message to area racers.

"I think this is very unfair," said the man, who was charged in 2003 after entering a street race in an industrial area in Markham.

The Scarborough resident said his licence was suspended for six-months and he was fined $1,000.

"I think they took the car because it's nice looking and they wanted to make an example of it," Martin said, of the vehicle that had five-star rims, a game console, a television and stereo system. "It was all looks."

Const. Kent Taylor said that if a car looks like a racer and sounds like a racer, then it usually is. The co-ordinator of project ERASE, which aims to drive racing off the streets, said police want to rid the road of menacing-looking vehicles.

NOT CRIMINAL OFFENCE

"If we really want this to stop, one of the things that'll really hurt (racers) is to take their car," Taylor said, noting vehicles can be seized for racing, currently a provincial, not a criminal, offence.

"If you're involved in street racing ... we will be looking to take the car."

Martin, who works in an automotive electrical shop fixing up cars for hobbyists, said the cops went overboard when he was arrested for racing. He said he was not doing the 180 km/h police said was reached.

He said he'd take the cops to court for crunching his car, but doesn't have the cash.

"Had I been drunk driving I would have been better off. I would have a lesser sentence ... and I would still have my car. I spent the better part of my childhood building it. It wasn't just a car."
I actually feel sorry for the guy...

but gldwngr I would like to thank you and yours for taking this 120hp racing machine off the street... I mean when he got charged racing he must've been very close to reaching the speed limit...LOL

Will the courts issue a publication ban on this car crushing incident, so when the owner surfaces of the other "racing" vehicle it does not discredit the spin doctoring any further???

does this mean I can just buy a benz s65, tint it dark so they can't tell i'm young and go racinn? daaamn

Is the police discriminating against low pocketbooks and ricer taste?

Angry

im sure most of you guys remember a topic a while ago regarding how we all get pulled over for having "fast looking cars". and how the cops have no real reason for pulling us over........... then they find some stupid reason like a side marker not functioning properly or something gay like that.
well does this mean that every "car guy" who has a fast looking, or menacing looking veichle is going to get taken off the road? like the article says. personally i think that the cops need more proof that these guys are actually racing.....like if its a fast and the furious type race going down..... then sure, prosecute these guys... but if your doing 120 on the q.e.w. in a car with a bodykit..it doesnt nesessarily mean your a street racer. hell, the cops and the media make us all look like f***ing criminals. last time i checked.. it wasnt a crime to have a hobby.
