But if you kill someone because you decided to run from the cops, that death is on your head and not on the cops. You are the one who has control of your gas and brake pedal. You are the one ultimately responsible for the damage caused by your operation of your car.
lets say a dumb stereotypical cop sees me and another tuner on a street, he thinks were street racing so he tries to pull us over.

Now if I stop, my car will be destroyed, I will lose my license for a year. Why the **** should I stop? Lets say you have a $40,000 car with $15,000 in mods, your not going to want to lose it that easily. Your vehicle is GONE, you wont get a dime out of it. If your financing the car, your really boned, your still gonna have to pay the loan off, and you will not be able to finance another vehicle at the same time.

A street race is "officers descretion", so by you doing nothing wrong, and by him seeing 2 tuners near each other he thinks your racing and your car will be destroyed because of it.

I am the kind of person who will stop, but many people will not stop, thats why i said another reason not to stop (for people who wont stop or are scared of getting their vehicles destroyed). There are ways out of getting your car destroyed, well loop holes in the law system can get your vehicle back.

But because of this some people wont stop if they are caught. I mean who wants to lose their ride?

Sure, instead of gambling just your ride, let's instead gamble a criminal conviction, definite jail time, possible lifetime license suspension, perhaps killing yourself, maybe someone else. And about that car - if you run, you're far more likely to lose it too.

Nobody is going to lose their car simply for just driving in close proximity to another car. You'll only get nailed when your driving becomes overly aggressive and extreme.

If you want to avoid the gamble, then drive well within the line. If you try to cut as close to the edge as possible to what you think is legal and acceptable driving behaviour, don't be surprised if you end up cutting yourself on that edge.

THIS is exactly what I'm afraid of. Maybe police will pull you over, take your car, and destroy it, without having to bother with all that civil rights mumbo jumbo about charges, disclosure of evidence, trials, verdicts, a person's right to defend himself, etc.

Save the hysteria and drama. Cars can't be destroyed unless there is a trial and conviction for a serious offence involving that vehicle, and even then there are avenues of appeal. Due process remains intact.

Is this in America or Canada? Because if it's in the US, then remember, only tthe people have to obey the laws- not the government...

its easier said than done. i gotta drive 3 hours to a track. if im going to the track, its to see my 1/4 time and its not something ill be doing often.

They need to build more tracks and give us a place to legally race.

Actually, if they're going to crush your car, your license has probably already been suspended, in which case you don't need your car any more, do you?

You're an idiot. 2 people a year die from vending machines? Do they kill other people when they rock that machine? And 2 people continent-wide?

Street racing just in the GTA has killed 8 people this year so far, and that's just the ones where the cops have reasonable evidence of street racing having occurred. Most of the victims were innocents not involvedin the street race gone bad - they were just out on the road just trying to go about their lives.

Tell me bright boy, how many deaths and injuries inflicted on innocents is acceptable? How many injuries? Have we reached that point yet here in the GTA? How about nation-wide?

They do. Haven't you ever seen the various police cottage and boat patrols? They check for life jackets, alcohol on board, safety and bailing equipment, and so on.

I spent all last weekend at Mosport for the ALMS race, and I do mean ALL last weekend. I have owned, prepared, and driven my own race cars at Mosport, Shannonville, Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio, Nelson's Ledges, and Waterford Hills.

I suppose you think that the only true car "enthusiasts" are those who want to race or drive like morons on public streets? Well, where I come from, we call them wannabes and pretenders.

I could care less about mods or simple speeding tickets. The unfortunate fact is that more than a few here go on to blatantly illegal driving behaviour that poses serious danger to the lives and well-being of other people out on or near the road.

You on the other hand seem to feel, what the hell, what's a few innocent lives as long as you can keep having your fun. That's the part that I would like to see aggressively stamped out.
