Finally got a HDTV
Well, my dad did for the living room....its a 42" 1080p LCD and holy **** does the 360 look amazing on it. I honestly didn't expect that much of a difference but WOW haha. Pretty dam amazing.
Question: The 360 does not upconvert DVDs does it? I ask because we played a DVD on our regular DVD player and the picture was crappy (we knew it would be) but later I tried a movie on the 360 and it played much better either the other DVD sucks cause it only works with the basic cables and the 360 has the HDMI but nice difference. If not my next question is a upconvert DVD player worth it? Or should we just buy a HD player? I kind of don't want to get a HD player till this format war is over but a HD-DVD can be bought at a good price compared to blu-ray.

a good up converting dvd player will be fine, the tv upconverts anything through HDMI, also if the regular dvd is through s video it will look like garbage no matter what (Sony invented s video, and has dropped it from their new a/v receivers if that is an indicator of anything)

I never tried a DVD in just the xbox... I know with the HD DVD player they look amazing.. its near HD quality imo. Ive just been buying regular DVDs again as of late... Ill still use it for an upconvert player, but Ill have to buy a blu ray player in the future if I want higher quality..

Nice, I just picked up a 46" 1080p LCD after Thanksgiving and holy crap it was like a whole new game, I went thru and popped in all my old games to check them out. All I need now is an HDMI xbox, I'm running it thru PC (VGA) connect right now. I haven't watched a DVD on the Xbox with the HDtV yet, guess I'll be trying that out haha.

try component cables the picture may improve over the vga (vga has a low resolution output original hd was through both component and vga, and most sets looked better with component)

I did switch it one day from VGA to the components that came with the Xbox and the picture got worse(my brother asked me if something happened to the xbox because it looked like crap) so I went back to VGA. Waiting for the HDMI conversion comes out for my xbox or else I'll just sell this one and get a newer one.

When you switched, did u hit the switch on the part that plugs into the console to HDTV from TV? I cant see how it got worse very interesting.
I doubt I will buy a HDMI cord for mine.....seeming ill be leaving soon anyways and wont have the HDTV for a while till I buy my own.

I thought there was already an HDMI connection to a TV. My bro's friend connects to his big screen through HDMI. Looks awesome. Then again, I'm used to playing 360 to a regular 27" TV using the cables that the Xbox came with.....

On the newer 360's there's an HDMI connection now. almost 2 years ago when I got mine that wasn't around in the 360's. My TV has the HDMI ports and I want to get the most out of them with the 360.
