need advice/help

ok.. here's the story..

ok, so i started this new job a month ago, started out fine.. its an autobody shop. the place is horribly dirty, very poor venilation, the whole shop is a mess. i was like whatever, i put up with it and keep working, first check comes around and i get paid at 18$/per hour. at this point everything is good.. i keep putting up with it. today rolls around and its payday again. my boss comes to me and says, there was a mis-comunication with payroll and im only suposed to be making 8$ and hour, im like ok.. wtf. then he says that im only getting paid 30 bucks this paycheck for 80hours of work because i was paid 18dollars last pay period. he cannot do this can he? he made the mistake with the pay, he should have to suck it up, and pay me at least 8 dollars and hour for the 80hours of work i put in, i worked my *** off because i thought i was making 18bucks an hour, which is an exceptional wage. he didnt even have the nerve to tell me that there was a mistake untill today when we we're getting paid. I'm thinking of going to labour relations and complaining, and then going to WCB for the fact that the shop does not meet standerds. i've heard the other guys in the shop complain about it also and say that he would get shut down if he ever got inspected. i need some advice on this whole situation. any help is apreciated.

yes, they can do that. When you find a mistake like that, you are supposed to tell them, they get you a new check, and that's that. If you don't tell them, and they notice, they will then dock the extra money from your next pay.

yeah I would complain... it doesnt sound right for him to do that on your payday, he should be professional about it, and figured it out ahead of time. It just doesnt seem right for him to tell you on payday. He had to have done the calculations ahead of time, so he had to have knew about it. Wait til you figure out your pay before you complain abt the shop. If everything works out with your money, then say somthing

yeah, they can still do it. I can't believe you didn't ask how much you were getting paid! lol That's usually the first question anyone asks. You should always know, so that they can't mess with your money. Like giving you to little. Or too much.

yep he can do that, and claim that previous check was an advance (at least in the US I don't know Canada it may be different)8 bucks an hour you better be the cleanup guy and not doing real work or else your getting screwed (when I started in body work I started at $12 an hour, then went to $20 a flat rate hour)

thats the part that makes me mad also. he didnt even have the curtisy to tell me that there was a mess up with the pay rate. as of right now im out 510 bucks for the 2 weeks i worked.. this is at 8$ an hour. as a matter of fact, i assumed i was making 8$ an hour, but then my first check was at 18 an hour. either way im going to WCB(i don't know what its called in the states but it has to do with safty and health issues) the shop is absolutly sickining. the ventilation in the booth is so poor, when spraying a car there is so much overspray it just hovers in the air all around you and burns your eyes. and.. i was doing everything, suspension work, wheel alignments, removing body parts, panels, fenders, bumpers, sanding, priming

and with this shop, you can't go flat rate, its just not worth it, its a tiny shop and so much time per day is wasted moving cars around and such. btw this is all canadian dollars to.. so 8 bucks is really not worth it for what im doing.

Yeah, OSHA can be nasty. Don't get me wrong I'm happy there here, like when my uncle was a teenager he worked for a warehouse and they were braking health code rules left and right so the day he quit he called OSHA and they came in and charged the company $10,000 a day until they got their act together. This was a small company so they ended up going out of buisnes.
It just goes to show you, you HAVE to follow the law's to a tee. I'm the hiring and training manager where I work and I make sure I don't break any rules. I play it safe most of the time to just cover myself and my company.

I got a dealership closed in GA because of their ventilation (I got carbon monoxide poisoning)
