When it comes to religion I try my best not to be close minded, because of course it's 99% based on belief as there's no proof either way. Even with my beliefs, there's no proof to answer the ultimate "Where did the universe come from?" question. As far as me believing there is a God, that's what Atheism is, it's the belief that there's no higher diety, also nicknamed Scientificology (atleast around my area, that's what I hear people call it), because people rely on science to explain where humans, the universe, etc came from. I'm a very scientific person in regards to anything scientific intrigues me 1000%, especially space and such. As far as the Universe, science can prove that the entire universe as we know it is basically an elastic rubber band that's being pulled on right now (not the best analogy)... everything is moving away from eachother in an expanding motion, and if you reverse the motion it obviously all comes together in one central point, which is why I believe the "Big Bang" theory. I mean, science can show that evolution is true, science can show that the *potential* for advanced life on other planets is VERY high (of course we haven't found it yet, so it's a weak arguement), and the roman catholic religion is just (not meaning any offense to anyone) so corrupt and mismanaged that it's hard for me to believe in their teachings. I mean... they lead you to believe that Adam and Eve is supposed to be where Humans truely came from, but yet at the same time, they say no to incest. If you think about it, if everyone descended from Adam and Eve, then that means that Adam and Eve's children had incestuous relations to continue the "family tree." I dunno, every time I went to church I always felt like I was being brainwashed into something that just seemed a little too... unbelievable.. to believe. But of course, it's just my opinion, I respect that everyone else believes different things, and I wouldn't be surprised if, let's say, Danielle or someone else disagreed with certain things I said, Atheism is a funny term because by definition it's just the non-belief in a higher diety... agnostic is not being sure... so it's like you can believe many different things, but still named "atheist." *deep breath* ok I'm done with my preaching.

Edit: d'oh there was one more thing to touch on that I forgot to, another thing that has always swayed me away is that most of the religious people I know are the biggest hypocrites I've ever met, like one girl I know is Baptist.. which i always thought meant you were like even more strict with your religion than Catholics, but yet she's all like "Hey, want a BJ?" while we're watching TV and her little brother is in the other room... we went to this religious thing that she talked me into going to and on the way there and back, she repeatedly shoved my hand in her pants (much to my willingness ) and allowed me to have fun while her youth group sat all around us (we had a blanket over, so no one noticed... or atleast no one said anything)

You gotta call me out, bro? lol, just joking with you. I don't disagree with anything you said, because I don't necessarily believe in any religion. I depise organzied religions for the most part, and don't necessarily believe there is or isn't a god. However, I definitely do not believe most of the rubbish that I consider the Bible to be. Way too many things contradict 90% of it, especially the Adam & Eve, and creation parts. And no one could ever give me a good enough answer for these contradictions, anyway. After having religion shoved down my throat by my mother till I was 18, I want nothing to do with any of it. I didn't even get married in a church. And baptists aren't more strict than Catholics, they just are different. They are usually less strict than Catholics, actually. Baptists are more of a southern thing(though they are everywhere), with lots of singing, and stuff like that. More of a relaxed atmosphere. That's what religion my mother is. And yes, I tend to hate the christianity attitude. Drives me crazy when they say, "we are right, and all other religions are wrong". Religion is a very bad subject with me....

Science cannot explain the "Big Bang", as there is nothing on earth that can create the amount of energy needed to make matter from nothing.

He was a **** guard because at the time you had no choice. If you were a German youth you had to join the **** party. He deserted it all to lead a life with the church, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

To be pope you have to be between the age of 65 and 79. They usually go with the oldest cardinals because they have more expereince.

We already discussed that, foo', keep up with the conversation. As far as him being a complete idiot, he's all "Homosexuality is wrong, birthcontrol is wrong, and women can't be ordained" (sp?) He's still living in the 17th century, they need to get someone that is up with to date, get all these conservative old folk out and get someone that actually knows what's going on in the world in there. But just like you said, that's just my opinion.

They were going through new popes like every year leading up to John Paul II, they picked John Paul II because he was athletic and younger so they knew that he wouldn't keel over and die like the others they picked did.

homosexuality is wrong (before I get flamed let me explain) the only reason for people to mate (the real reason as in natural) is to procreate how does a homosexual procreate?

You yourself said that you are athiest and follow no religion. If you do not understand the faith, don't critisize it. Morals need to be in place, and they most certainly need to be in place this day in age. Someone younger that "actually knows what's going on" would more than likely be some idiot like you that would introduce Budweiser as the new holy water and Pringles at Communion.

Don't critisize things you don't understand, it makes you look like a retard.

So that means that a woman that physically can not procreate can not get married either, then.

Take your own advice before you assume things. Morals are great, but having strict morals for things that the rest of the world is starting to come to terms with is just leaving the religious sector in the old ages. Someone younger that actually knows what's going on in the world can still say they don't condone gay marriage, but at the same time they could say that it is the person's choice. Same with birth control. It's just funny that a religious group can say they don't condone homosexuality yet there's hundreds of thousands of homosexual priests in the country.

marriage has nothing to do with it marriage is a ritual not an instinct, now I don't care if someone is gay that's their life, but if you look at the history of the catholic church they are very pro reproduction
