Jetta Diesel, 5 spd. So its not fast but you can hammer the out of it and it won't break. 800-1000 km to a tank on $30 of diesel...I don't see any other choice. You can lower it if you want and get rims, but if you have another car and this is just your commuter vehicle, tint real dark so noone can see you and drive a beater.

Well I know they base it on trim level, and yes, a Civic DX or whatever would be cheaper than an SiR, but cheapER is the word. Still expensive compared to other cars. I know this first-hand when I was getting insurance as a secondary driver on my mom's car. Civic LX. It was 150 a month as an occasional driver.. should've been closer to 50. I find Hondas really expensive to insure, even the base models. My Integra RS is more expensive to insure than the 5L I had.

TDI or brand new ecotec J-Body.

You can drive one off the lot for 10,999 with a 5yr warrenty.

Cheap plastic econobox, but you'll never have to worry about the power-tran (GM builds engines, not cars) and it'll be good for MIN 600km/tank with reports of 750 w. hwy driving.

^ My Dad's 2001 Golf GLS gets about 750-800km per tank, with the 2.0L and 5-speed. I am going to agree with others in this thread, and suggest that you get yourself a nice Mk4 Golf/Jetta with the TDI and 5-speed.

how about go train ?

Save the car for personal use. whatever car you decide to buy, the excess km will greatly depreciate the value. Not to mention higher wear maintance (eg. tires, brakes, oil changes, gas etc).

I'm glad your making more money, but if you spend more of it just to get to work. Doesnt really make you better off and dont forget cuz ur making more money, more taxes , possibly higher tax bracket?

Get a nice car personal use.

my 2 cents deposited.

Get a Golf TDI.. and dont do anything to it .. just drop it at the most.. if your REALLY concerned about fuel do not put bigger rims, intake, exaust. All that murders the "mpg" on your car.

No ?!?!?!?!

My dad has a 92 Grand prix 3.1 and he's only getting 300 k's to a full tank never mind the fact that he's gone through one tranny and 2 alternators shocks/struts a load of rotors and calipers and rocker panel replacement due to rusting out, Did I mention it's failed emissions twice already and needed more than $300 both times to pass ?

Oh, yeah - 160,000 Km

Death to PONTIAC

Unless it's a sweeeet new Solstice roasdter - RWD ecotec for under 20 grand :thumbsup

At this time, i'm looking for a year range and kms on the odometer for golfs and jettas to test drive

im thinking

2001 to 2003 , with no more then 150k on the car... definately TDI is what im looking for...

Any suggestions

are you sick? The GTO is the best built pontiac car ever .Its funny how the new grand prix ranks over most import sedans.

BTW your dad must be a pretty big ing idiot if he had a shop weld in new replacement 1/4 panels on a 92 pontiac.I smell b/s.

the proper way to find out if a car is decent or not goto www.epinions.com jd powers can suck my .
