Smart Car. But new it would be out of your price range.
It's got .8 Ltr diesel engine, 6 speed trans, Oh you can get it with a Tiptronic if you want.

Buy my lancer. It gets really great gas mileage and the engine isn't even broken in yet. Even with .84 + gas prices it only costs $25-30 to fill up just like a Civic.

It's lowered has exhaust, intake, nice interior with a sparco shift **** and c/f pedals, a sunroof and an in-dash 6 cd player. All stuff which you could enjoy on your commute. 5 Spd too.

It has a FAR better warranty than anything mentioned in this thread (Mitsubishi best backed cars in the world). None of the mods void the warranty and you can purchase an extended warranty too. Rustproofing too, so no worries about salt in the winter. That's also warrantied.

Oh and 2,500 kms going for $15k. I paid $26k all said and done.
