I have a 1996 honda accord e x each time I drive it the gear does not select...

...smootly.what could be wrong? can the engine sitting affect automatic gear selection. because my 1996 honda accord does not select smoothly and I have been told by a mechanic that it is not gear problem?

Change mechanics...it's ur transmission PERIOD !

Go 2 AAMCO n let them test drive it n they will tell u w/out charging u anything.
