Street Racing Suspected Behind Fatal Crash That Shut Hwy 400
For the second time in less than 48 hours, a major crash shut down Highway 400 both ways only this time it was fatal. The OPP said several vehicles were speeding on the northbound lanes when one of them apparently cut off a tractor-trailer. The big rig skidded across the highway and landed in a ditch. Its driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was a man from Innisfil, Ont. and was about 50-years-old. Another person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
So far police have arrested two men suspected of racing and they say they're looking for a third "person of interest." Both individuals face dangerous driving charges. One witness said the reckless drivers appeared to be changing lanes constantly, "They were veering from lane to lane. They just didn't seem to care," recalled David Trudel.
Meanwhile, as police investigated the scene of the accident it was no picnic for drivers who were forced to find alternate routes home. The northbound lanes are still closed at highway 88, while the southbound lanes are shut down at highway 89.
And there doesn't appear to be any relief for motorists any time soon as officials expect the closure between Cookstown and Bradford to last until at least midnight.
Saturday's accident happened along the same stretch of highway.

suspected street racing ...thats news and its the only reason why i even opned this thread...@least the newspaper companies know that putting "suspected street racing" in a byline sells the paper.

if anyone here starts bitching about how they blame racers again and blah blah blah just stfu now and dont post...get a life. street racing caused this, deal with it. dont bitch everytime they tell you about more lives street racing took. if it was a drunk driver that killed a family you would say poor family and screw the driver...but since its street racing, its poor street racers, why do they have to profile them.

ALSO, I am in NO WAY defending the drivers who caused this crash. This truly is tragic event. An innocent man was killed because of someones stupidity. I was just commenting on the media's take on this. I don't know what happened, I wasn't there. And so don't alot of people including the media. But I'm sure they will take little bits and pieces of peoples comments on what they witnessed and spin it off as the usual big bad street racing headliner that will make good media.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the truck driver and his family. May he RIP.

There was 3 cars, one was mommys Grand Am who clipped the truck then crashed along with it. A Mustang which got booked aswell and a Honda(unverified) which got away lol. I think they just added Honda to make it a better story.

I don't think these kind of things should make the ****ing front page of toronto star, let alone a picture of traffic taking up half the page.
I mean they just did a huge child **** bust, and that got 1x2 inches of paper and the release of 26 of the guys charged last week in the drug busts got pushed down to page A8.

It seems to me that there is huge media downpour on street racing and all of these "alleged" street racing deaths because a number like 38 confirmed deaths since 1998 as a result of street racing is just not a number that is good enough for people to really be interested in taking on street racing. So if that number starts to climb then politicians and media houses will be able to facilitate their own personal endeavours with John Public behind them.

The street races that you hear about that cause deaths are some sort of new propaganda + conspiracy thing. Those ppl causing deaths and accidents are not street racers - they are professional stunt drivers from all those commercials you see, who were hired by a secret society comprised of media moguls, police forces, politicians, insurance companies, and the like.
Their job is to create the news by reaking havoc and killing ppl - this raises everyones insurance premiums so that the insurance company stockholders make more $$$$, gives politicians a boost in public ratings and grants them new powers, gives police forces more $$$ to blow and buy nice new shiny cars and guns instead of hireing more ppl to do actual police work as well as transforming the polices role of watching over the people to watching the people, and for the media to make more $$$ selling the stories.
It's 1984 / big brother for real (for those who dont know, 1984 is a book written in 1948 about how the government bombs its own ppl, s disease on its own citizens and blames an unseen enemy for the purpose of controlling all ppl by removing their rights, and so on. Hmmm much like what G Bush has done and the CIA)
It's social engineering in practice - turning famalies against thier own sons and daughters who are car enthusiasts.
The CIA struck a deal with Columbian drug lords and introduced cocaine into heavily black populated areas to wipe them out, only the plan back fired.
The New York riots and crime fears was actually a social experiment done by a USA University and sanctioned by the US government to see how they can shape ppls thoughts, they introduced a fake crime element and ppl freaked, when they stopped the experiment - all went back to normal.

i agree with what ur trying to say kuztom
right now im back in home land in east europe and here the traffic situations are a lot worse then what is in canada. no one uses signals, cutting off ppl is a normal thing, iv seen like one speed sign, no one cares about pedestrians and so one, but all the cars have no scratches or dents on them unlike most of the cars iv seen in toronto and the crash rates are pretty low, the only ppl that get killed in car acidents and also kill others on the roads are mostly the ppl in the bnezes and beamers because they drive drunk and hight on almost any drug u can imagine
what in trying to says is that the police focuses on street racing because its the easyes way out, what they should focuse on is not letting old ppl drive and cracking down on drinking and driving
