Why do you guys waste your time with import?
#31
Rods & Pistons - 2000$
Turbo - 1300$
Raxles - 700$
Manifold/Downpipe - 900$
Intercooler - 400$
Custom Piping - 250$
Revo BT software - 750$ + tunning
Thats almost 6500$ worth of crap and the car still isnt done. Plus all the labour(assuming you dont work on your car) and plus all the other little BS like oil pans, etc..
Worst part is that amount of money only gets you 12's

i wouldnt say that for sure, same driver, yes, bad driver... well...
ive seen a few vettes on track days... but under bad drivers, but so did a ferrari 360 that showed up, and was passed by my friend in a basic MINI Cooper!
but this is about drag racing right? ive not taken my car there yet but i reckon most people would smoke my car

you just said it, with the same driver. its a faster car, makes more power handles better and stops better. its a perfect recipe.

Well ernie, I'm sure you're far more knowledgeable then I am track side, as you race and I don't.
However, I still disagree with your statement, and further more, if it were such a problem at the track,
I'm sure there would be rules in place to prevent such a travesty from happening in the first place.
Watch out for them Imports, you never know what you might end up getting sm0ked by.
YouTube - 9 second turbo hyundai
Or what might crap out infront of you.
YouTube - Camaro loses it's rear end
Domestic right?
Oh and here is one I know you'll love, you mentioned you're just dipping into the 8's...
maybe you can get pointers from this guy, he seems to have gotten there with his little "ricer"
YouTube - 8 second civic
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
peace dude.
Not to mention a $3500.00 shifter kart, holds the second fastest lap record around Mosport, just 10th's of a second behind a 2 or 3+ million dollar formula 1 car.
I don't amagine a corvette driver would say that's a fair race though.
And it's not even a domestic!... it's an import too... funny how that works.
lol

thing is, there are fast imports, but for every sub 10 second import you have 100 sub 10 second domestics.

look better, hardly. lets compare the sound since were here. tin can angry box of beams vs pissed off deep gurgle. the only imports that have a nice sound are the 350z and the infiniti g35, same car, love the way those motors sound

Well of course you do!, Domestics have been at the forefront of drag racing all through the years.
However as times are changing, you'll see that trend change as well, and you will see more and more imports on track day then in yesteryears.
And Imports will be going faster and faster as time goes by.
But I think we all kinda got off point here, the "POST" was about a statement that "Drag Racers" should not bother with imports, and just stick with, if I may, (Ford Dodge and Chevy) the Big 3 Domestics, and altough there have been many good points raised by some members from both sides of the fence.
I still say, and will always say, Imports have just as much right at the track as domestics.. Yes, it's a LOT more money to go 8's With an Import then a Domestic, and Yes a Domestic may hold up better then an Import in some instances, But then again... Some people enjoy a challenge. =)

im all about a challange, my last car was a 97 cavalier with a built motor, turbocharged, short geared tranny and a list of parts longer than my arm, and the challange was fun but it got to a point where the novelty wore off, having to upgrade everything just to handle power, so i enjoy having a fctory v8 car with stronger parts and rwd.

I think back 15 years ago, and there wasn't a chance in hell you could of sold me on a FWD let alone an import, No Sir, I was a Chevy man HARD CORE lol heck I was always telling my kids, yeah, FWD is great in the winter, but that's about all... well.. many things have changed in the last 15 years including my opinions and understanding of FWD cars, And the cars have come a long way as well.
I like em both, and own them both..

dont get me wrong, i miss my cavy all the time, i miss surprising guys in vettes and stangs and lengthing them. those moments were pricelss. but the sad reality is, once you hit about 300 hp fwd becomes useless. wheel spin is a bitch, you hit a corner at 100 kph in third gear, come into boost as was my case and your now plowing straight. throttle control became a surgical art. the car was fun, but i have so much more fun in the stang than i did in the cavalier. plus if i sank the 8400 bucks i had into the motor of that car into the stang id have a 10 second street car that i could drive every day and everywhere, lol

lol we all know a supra needs about 25 grand to hit 13's. its sad but true. over priced everything on those cars. its like modding a bmw. hey im gonna go spend 900 bucks on an air intake. youknow, some pipe and a filter. awsome. the only thing i disagree with is the dodge part. unless your racing an old dodge i wouldnt wanna see it at the track. itll puke alongside all the imports.
for the guy comparing the type r to the mustang, compare the type r to a vette. thats what i thought.

Are you Serious? For real? 25g's to go 13's in a supra. Buddy, get your head out of your ***. Put 25 grand into a supra and all your cute little mustang will be seeing is tail lights and sucking back on some exhaust fumes.

And the nsx is the biggest gutless wonder going. the vette would put honda to shame if they wanted to challenge the vette.
