what makes it garbage?

Personally I love the fact that I can encrypt all of my files extreamly easily.

Vista is like every other MS OS that has come out, when it is released it is bug ridden, and some what unstable, but you have to realize that windows 98 had 600,000 lines of code for the core OS, windows XP up'ed that to 1.2 Million, and Windows Vista is rumored to be about 1.6 Million lines of Code. That is a huge amount of Data to compile, and MS does not have the resources to test every single possible setup of users running it's Operating systems.

From a Home users Point of view, Vista is a nice looking OS, but will require a lot of people to upgrade their computers to get the most out of it, which is what MS and the Computer Manufactures want. The quoted life span of a computer is supposed to be 3 years, but most people I know have systems that are 5-7 years old, and Vista will force them to upgrade if they want it to work. That's a point that most people are missing as well, the fact that their Athlon 1.2Ghz with 512Mb of Ram may not be able to run Vista at all. I have heard a lot of complaints from people about Vista running slow, and it is due to the fact that their PC doesn't have even the recommended minimum specs required to run Vista.

From an IT Administrators point of view, I will not touch Vista until at least SP1 is released. I cannot afford to have downtime on my systems because of a buggy OS. Not to mention, I have to have time to test all of the software we use, to ensure it is compatible with Vista, and if it is not, I have to allow time for the companies to release Vista Compliant versions.

That is something else that not a lot of people are considering when purchasing Vista. "Is all of my software going to work?" A lot of people are impressed by the eye candy, and don't think of the other consequences that upgrading to a new OS may bring.

For now I will keep my PC Quad-Booting between 2000 (Main OS), XP, 2003, and Vista, but in time I may move to strictly 2k3 and Vista.

Just installed vista today....takes up a lot of resourses.....i guess it does have a few useful things but other ten that..I think it has a more user friendly interface than anything else.

One thing I've notieced is that Opera isn't optimized for Vista at all. In XP even with 5-8 tabs open it uses about 60mb's of ram, however in Vista it's all the way up to 175mb's. Firefox actually uses less resources but I'd still rather stick to my Opera. Haven't noticed any issues with programs not working yet. Although MSN live has crashed a few times when I attempt to create groups in a certain way. I am only running RC1 though.
