let me ask you this, in your mid 17 second car, was it difficult to merge with traffic if you had a few grocery bags in the trunk? im just wondering, ive driven some slow cars and theyve all been scary to merge with, i mean they were all faster than your mid 17 second pile was but still scary when it came to merging with even light traffic

Ok, heres what I know/heard (but might be wrong some of it):- Chrysler commissioned Mitsu to design n build a car that had euro stylings (like a cl500 mercedes lines, or similar), just look at the side profile. They wanted something built that was relativly good looking, styleish, luxurious, etc.. but on a cheaper platform and affordable by more ppl. This was the Chrysler 2dr (not 4dr) Sebring LXi, after 1996 the cars looked less euro and more domestic. Its basically all Mitsu except the Chrysler a604 crappy tranny in them (shared by many Chrysler cars), not sure about the manual tranny's. Now from this a Dodge version was made - the Avenger. I have limited knowledge on the avenger, I bought a 1995 Sebring LXi 3 yrs back.
I bot mine cuz I just liked the side profile, 2 tone paint scheme, etc.. just never really liked the cheap looking 95 center grill section (fuggly), and I got mine fairly cheap with high miles cuz my intention was to beat on it, blow up the motor, and then gut it. Bitch hasnt blown up yet, so i continue beating on it and use it as a winter beater + dd. When she blows or I have time, I will convert it to V8 and make it RWD (as GOD intented, loo). I will also do many body mods [change roof, move front wheel more in the center of the fender, tubb it out, widen rear quarters (not shown in image below), change front face with scratch built one off, new wider front fenders, poss new style hood dependant on mill, and some other *****]

My ride has 383,000kms on it, 2.5L V6, 4spd overdrive auto, came with a slapping piston, fair condition skinny tires, full around independant susp and full around disk brakes, sun roof (LXi's come fully loaded, not sure bout base models or Avengers, or 4 cyl models). Car handles amazingly, takes resedential street corners easily at 40kms (Ive pushed her to 60kms, not bad for a heavy POS), and brakes really great. In the 3 yrs Ive had it, Ive changed the oil + lucas oil, and cut out the exhaust flex pipe and welded in a new $30.00 universal one (no need to replace that whole $400 header collecter flange POS), some times the high beams dont seem to work, as well as the reverse lights [I did some stuff in the center concell to tighten and take up slack on the E-brake and prolly knocked off the reverse backup switch connector] otherwise no electrical probs (tho I have heard some got elec probs). Car has fukk all for power (remember high miles to), and shifts like its a mental patient when I launch it hard (basically revs to like 6500rpm and doesnt wanna shift into second untill I let up a bit), but normal daily driving - the car is just fine once warmed up, no probs. I have raced the car [on secluded sections of road with no one around, no buildings, nada, just grass and 2 cars] and found that off the line it pulls rather well, even with the bad shifting [manual does nothing much] and does ok, not great but ok.
I will prolly buy a 1996 LXi - I simply like them.

oh one other thing, dodge isnt known for having strong trannies and these cars are no exception, my buddy went through a few of them and he doesnt drive the car hard,just a dodge thing. i think they look cool but thats about where it ends
oh and dont kid yourself, i wouldnt reccomend a cavalier to people either, especially not one from before 1999, weak trannies is the biggest issue with these cars and people who dont properly maintain them tend to cause a bearing to spin. aside from that there arent many issues with these cars, but it is a nice starter car especially for the price, you get something peppy and sporty looking and you can also get a 5 spd, but to modify as extensivly as i have its not cheap and there isnt as much aftermarket support as there is for a dsm or any honda product out there
