the things about the weight is.. yes for cars under 10 or even 12 seconds maybe every second counts.. but alot of races now adays are ET races and it doesnt matter if you run a 282983943 second quarter mile as long as you are consistent and can hit your ET everytime. of course now that takes all the fun out of it lol.
what you have got to realize tho is it isnt worth it on street cars. typically you gain .1 or 1 tenth of a second for every 100 lbs you remove from the car. not much huh. but then again for number biting dragers like 2000b4c every tenth counts.

The thing that sucks is, these mods that gain you a tenth or so... You can't tell on the street, you have to be at the track. Once you get to a certain point, it is really hard to tell what gives you gains and what hurts unless you are at the track...
Going from a 15 sec car to a 14.3 second car is easy, and you will notice that change... Going from a 12.9 second car to a 12.5 secong car, is not easy with out big mods llike heads/cam, nitrous, slicks... That kind of stuff you notice, but the little things like weight reduction, porting throttle bodies, etc... are a lot harder to notice on the street, the only way to tell is when those ET's drop at the track...

the way i see it u could take that 2000 lb box with 400 hp and give it 600 hp or make the box lighter with the same power whitchever way u look at it one has to change either weight or power take ur pick.

I like it but i want to do show and as you said people are real hesitant about a stright up drag car. So i will keep my carpet and stereo lol. But i love the car and get what you mean about every tenth of a second counts. Post the gains.
