rad fan question

hey all, I have a 91 civic hatch with a b16 swap, my rad fan is currently not hooked up (bought car like that) and obviosly it wasnt really needed through winter, but my question is..as the weather gets warmer is this going to be an issue? as of right now its not overheating but then again it could be cold enough still. The wiring is kinda shady and i honestly would not know how to hook it back up.

Well with the way traffic is adding up these days you will be in alot of stop and go traffic this summer which is going to require a rad fan otherwise the engine will overheat. If you can hook the rad back to the oem wiring and have it finction properly that is the best way. Otherwise i would run the fan to the battery off a toggle switch and just manually turn it on. You will just have to remeber on those hotter days to turn the fan on. Also remeber that having the fan on all the time is not a good thing because it will take the engine longer to reach operating temperature which in a sense is not good for the motor either.

the only issue is you won't be able to maintain your car at operating temperture. Operating temperature is very critical and keeping it stable. In the extreme case it is a contributing factor to engine knock can be present do to excess heat as that is one varaiable tuners like to keep consistent. If your car has mild performance mods then you should not be worrying, but it is still a good idea to have the operating temp predicatable and consistent after warm up. I would try wiring it back to oem conditions before wirring in a toggle switch.
