What is the best way to help a "Cold Natured" motorcycle run better?

The bike in question is a 99 Suzuki gs500. Just got it. LOVE it.

hillbilly street rep is low. keep going
clean carb. change plugs, put in higher temp plugs. run high test gas. adjust timming retard the spark slightly. these usualy help. of course you could move to a warmer climate...
