"Distinct Licence Plate" ticket

So, I think I was another victim of this ERASE project. I get stopped on Lakeshore E, near the beaches, doing 87/60. Cop gives me the ticket. THEN, later, I find out there are TWO tickets. The second, the didn't even MENTION. It's a "distinct licence place" tic for $110. WTF?! I have a grey licence plate cover from CDN tire. 1/2 the ppl have the protectors. Are they illegal? Has anybody else gotten this ticket? How did you deal w/ it?

I'm taking both to court, obviously. But wanted to get some opinions, stories, please.

any cover is illegal over your plate, anything that obscures part of the plate. Best way to approach this is to request the court date, take the cover off, bring a picture of the car with the cover off. They will most likely dismiss this one without a problem as you took steps to correct it. For the speeding you'll have to try to haggle them down, probably be able to get it down to 15 over without too much of an issue

Follow "chubby's" advise.....at least it shows you took initiative to correct the problem.

Also there is a section in the HTA that is arrestable for "confusing" identity of plate, which if the officer can articulate that it now represents another province, state or you are trying to hide the plate.

I know C'dn tires sells the plates, headlight covers, different colour bulbs, louder mufflers, but every single item I've looked at purchasing also has the disclaimer on it.......
"check with local laws prior to installation"
