GTI Valve-timing

When I rev my '94 GTI past 4100 rpms, it gets a very noticable boost in power. I was wondering whether this was just the powerband kicking in rather strongly, or whether its a change in valve-timing to create more power, like Honda's VTech. Any answers to this would be appreciated

No the 8v didnt have variable valve timing. I think your throttle body might be dirty or air filter.. I'd open it up and check it.

Ya thats what I've been told. I'm getting a new filter, and someone suggested the spark plugs might be dirty which would cause that

It could be a whole lot of ish. Start by doing the maintenance first. Air filter, oil change, spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc..
