both of u guys sound like burn outs. if u need 10, let alone 20 pounds of boost to keep up with vtec, then there's something wrong with your tune

ya variable valve timing isn't a big deal although several major car manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon with their own, albeit inferior, variations of vtec.

re-read your post.

P.S. how the **** can u hate vtec? if u understood what it does in terms of fuel efficiency, reliability and performance then u wouldn't talk like that.

VTEC is a good thing, though it certainly doesn't add to the vehicles reliability.

reliability in terms of having the benefit and performance of aggressive cam lobes and lifters at high rpm with the reliability of fuel efficient cam lobes and lifters at low rpm.

Neither of those things represent reliability.

Does VTEC enable the car to last longer? That's arguable- there are no quantitative tests to actually determine that.

What you just sound represents performance and fuel efficiency, not reliability.

I have heard a bunch of people say that Vtec acctually saves gas.... WTF?!?!? Is there any truth to this?

It can help you save gas by maintaining a more mild cam profile at lower RPM's.

reliability in the sense that u get the benefit of a more aggressive cam profile without all the bullshit that goes with it... sloppy idle, poor fuel efficiency etc etc... maybe reliability isn't the best term... drivability maybe? i made a new word... go me go! anyhow, u get the gist.

What he's trying to say is that variable valve timing is a good way to add power without having to sacrifice much engine life. Thats why pretty much every car company uses it, even the new MR2's.
