The Cobalt SS is no more...

cobalt ss is a 2.0 litre supercharged motor.. the engine is built to take 300 hp.. is knocked down a few notches outta factory to save gas, and be more efficient, if you read up on it. with about 800 bucks i think, you can drop in stage 2 and have a smaller pulley, a tune, and correct me if im wrong, about40-50 more horsepower and 40-50 more torque. stage 3 is in testing now. This car is built to compete with the srt4..
The aftermarket on the cobalt ss isnt as wicked as the honda aftermarket, but its coming on strong ... Hahn Racecraft already has a twincharger kit for it.. Turbo + Supercharger = sweet powerband, and mega sweet noise haha..
Only reason i know a bit about this car is because im getting one in a few weeks, and ive been reading up on it..
The main reason I want this car is because its built to take performance, and built to take a beating. most cars now adays are built to last with the horsepower they are given at stock. GM built theres to handle power. I think most of there SS vehicles are built that way.
Im with the ss all the way.. ahaha but who really cares.. its a battle of opinions

GM could do that.. but it's a lot of R&D to make a head flow very good... besides, using FI allows you to gain torque as well as HP w/o having to rev as high...

Oh, and to add to the list of motors GM buys of other companies! The 3.5L found in the Saturn Vue is the Honda 3.5L found in the MDX/Ridgeline/Odyssey/Pilot/RL etc.
Obviously GM has acknowledged that Honda produces some pretty bulletproof and reliable engines.

As for the comment about GM cars fetching huge amounts at these auctions and that Japanese cars will never reach these heights. You must realize that these auctions take place in Honkyville, USA, where they think that anything that comes from overseas is "Jap Scrap". Conversely, I'm sure Japanese look at the American muscle cars as gas guzzling, look at my ***** car, typical American arrogance.
Ultimately, Japanese and American cars are produced with different mentalities. American mentality is "who cares about wasting gas, destroying the environment, as long as it goes like hell and looks good doing it". Japanese mentality looks at American cars and says "look at those guys over there, we can show them that we can hang with them with much smaller engines, consume much less gas in the process and give all those tree hugging environmentalists a hard on".

RX8 is rotary, and no matter how well mazda has engineered it, rotary is, and probably always will, thermally inefficient... (large surface area).... fuel mileage also have more than just those factors, gearing could easily play to the GTO's favor simply because in 6th goin at 100km ur barely goin more than 1500 rpm... whereas a RX8 is likely seeing close to 2.5-3k inorder to utilize whatever torque that motor can make
im in agreement though... japanese LOVES american culture

Is the GTO vs RX7 thing supposed to be another US vs Japan thing? Cause the GTO is really a Vauxhall Monaro which is european I believe, although it is most likely a joint effort. Personnally, I like the Monaro better.

Which in return is also an american company , funded by GM of USA and on top carries a GM drivetrain. You're right about the rotary thing. A better comparison is a Z06 VS S2000. Even with that at twice the displacement the Z06 gets 1-2mpg better gas mileage.
