Should motor sports be banned?

In the interest of the environment and all thatIn my opinion motor sports are a completely unnecessary indulgence - and all the little bits add up to big bits - I realise there are plenty of other things that people could cut back on or stop completely but this seems like an obvious and easy one to start with - just a thought.............

In the interests of the environment, the effect of motor sports is so tiny as to make no difference at all.

No not bikes, just formula 1, in the interest of it not being of any interest.

Not banned but yes they should be moving towards and promoting better economy and greener technologies. This has generally been the case with motorsports as they need to get more and more power (and in the case of endurance or fuel limited races decent economy) This has a trickle down effect to the consumers. The obvious series that should be banned are the ones such as Nascar and their offshoots - they are lumbering V8 thirsty dinosaurs, stupidly long races (even the drivers have stated this -its just to give time for adverts and fill up the speed channel with drivel)with multiple refuels and not doing anything to advance technology (unless you live in an area that only has banked corners in one direction) - Only to sell Dinosaur technology cars. It needs to get with the 21st century and maybe could encourage a shift in the perceptions of its demographic as well.BTW this should be asked under motorcycle or motor racing , not the transportation section.

Why pick on Motor Sports. Why not ban the Internet. All the damage to the environment caused by the electricity needed to power all of the equipment. You should shut off your PC to save the environment. Why not ban privately owned automobiles. There are other ways people could get around. Why not ban Baseball, Soccer, Football, Rugby, Golf, Tennis. Just think of all of the electricity saved by not televising these events. Just think of all the fuel saved because people are no longer traveling to these events. Gee, this would surely save the environment.Singling out one item just because it doesn't interest you isn't the answer.

Just ban living while you're at it. There's no other way. You're just picking on something you aren't interested in, and therefore probably wouldn't miss. However, motor sports lead to improvements in engine efficiency, vehicle safety, materials science, all sorts of generally useful things you haven't taken into consideration. We only live for a short while, then it's someone else's problem, so enjoy yourself.

Formula 1,yes.Moto GP,NO.I don't believe we can have any influence on the planet. All these scientists that believe we are 'destroying' the planet, base this on computer prediction models, but a computer only does what you tell it.This is just a natural phase in the Earth,s life, but theres no money to be made in that.
