We have the TV on more than the 5 hours a day or whatever they use to get the life of the panels too so it wouldn't last as long for me, and I was told the LCD's had a longer life so we went with that.
I will agree that standard def. takes some time to get used to on the LCD since it seems blurry at times but HD makes up for it in my opinion.
Problem is, it's not 'blurry'. It's so sharp, it's actually showing all the video compression artifacts.

Take a small photo, save it as a JPEG with about a 6 or 7 for compression in Photoshop (equivalent of a studio formatting video for standard def, broadcast quality). Then blow it up by about 300% (what your HDTV does). You'll see the compression artifacts, it's the same idea.

I'm just trying to figture out if I should buy an LCD or Plasma tv now.

Either way I'll probably go with a 42" unless I decide to splurge in which case I might go with a 47" or 50".

The LCD we got is a Toshiba 42 inch flat panel, no dead pixels or anything, and quite frankly it cost the same as the 27 inch TV that I bought 6 years ago. Kinda crazy how far this stuff has come.

I think you need to take a look at prices again. Plasmas are without a doubt cheaper and much easier to find in larger sizes without the price really jumping fast.

Pretty much over 42" and the LCD typically costs twice as much if you can even find them.

42" and under it's a wash. They both end up the same, if anything the LCD's can be found cheaper.

Exactly, the larger you go the faster the LCD prices climb over plasmas.

I am not getting a projection TV, they never look near as good as a plasma or true LCD. Plus if someone sits from an angle they can't see the screen as well.
