I don't know where "here" is for you but we have rather stringent gun
laws in Illinois (even outside Chicago) and they are still dumb.

Had one moron break into a house about 3 miles from me out in the
country. Car sitting on the driveway and he still broke in during broad
daylight. Fought with the owner who, for some reason, didn't shoot him.
Oh, did I mention the car in the driveway was a fully marked sheriff's
department patrol car?

> Hmmm....what were you saying about a dearth of Mensa members...? ;)

You have to remove YOUR mindset when you think about what the criminal
class will do. They don't think like you and me. If they did, they
most likely would not be criminals.

Who kills somebody for a dirty look? for a pair of new Nike's? for...?

See my point?

there might even be more than one auto burglar, and it's not hard to take
away a baseball bat.

Get a baby monitor, the digital ones have the best range.
Then you can listen in on your car, effectively a silent alarm.
If they break a window or open the door, you will hear it,and they will have
no indication of an alarm.(they are not "cheap",though)

Make an adapter to allow it to run off the 12V auto cig lighter.

Orlando police have had several of their vehicles broken into;the thieves
are targeting them for the guns inside.
Orlando Sheriffs lost 2 machine guns(one a silenced machine pistol!) and a
Glock from just one unmarked car, other thefts nicked a couple of AR-15
rifles and a couple of handguns.
and that's with gun locking stations bolted inside.

Thievery is getting really bad;now the thieves are stealing copper wire
from street lighting *that is powered up*.
also, the copper and aluminum from home air conditioners, and stripping homes
under construction.

Of course, our laws protect the criminals better than they protect the
ordinary decent citizens(ODCs).They make it SAFE for thieves to steal.

Install a "trip" wire and run it up to your bedroom and tie the other
end to your big toe. Keep the Glock handy, it will be a lot more
effective than a crappy ol' bat...
