Couldn't get any of my 'merican cars to last much past the last
payment (60 months) ...when I used to buy them on credit. I'm a
former automotive technician. I think I'd know how to get the most out
of a vehicle if there is a 'most' to get... My 01 camry has 150k and
unless someone runs into me, I don't see a day when I'll need another
vehicle. It may out last me...

Re: Why does the auto industry turn out such crap??

you must not be a very good "automotive technician" then.
my 79 F250 4X4 has 213,000 miles on it, and still plows snow.
my 88 superduty 4X4 has 257,000 miles on it and still going strong.
my 02 superduty has only 153,000 miles on it so far.
my partners 2000 F350 has 257,000 miles on it, and it is just broke in.
the guy across the street has a 90 F150 with 215,000 miles on it, and it
still purrs too.
one of the kids down the street has 327,000 miles on his E150, and it still
looks like new.
one of my subcontractors has 6 trucks, the newest a 90 chevy C30, and they
all have over 300,000 miles on them, and still work every day.
i can give you another 40 or 50 to add to this list that i personally know
about with over 150,000 miles on them.
and every one of the above vehicles all still have the same engine and trans
that came from the factory.
now on the other side of the fence.
my niece had a toy yoda that had 2 engines blow before it has 100,000 on it.
it is now in the junk yard.
the neighbor next door to me bought a 2006 Camry. it has been back to the
dealer 8 times so far, and has less than 30,000 miles on it. as soon as the
warrantee is up it is gone.
across the street next door to the F150, they had 2 toy yodas, and 2 nissans
and a mazda that all blew up before they made 76,000 miles.
they now drive fords.

i have never seen a foreign made vehicle that made it over 100,000 miles
besides a few german made cars and a coulpe of hondas. and by the time the
hondas made 100,000 miles the bodys were falling off of them.

My '91 Regal lasted 14 years, my Olds Cutlass was also 14 years, 190,000
miles. My LeSabre has had some problems, but has been paid in full for a
few years already. Maybe you just suck at fixing cars.

You're quite the comedian, pal.

It has already been proven that your powers of observation are lacking.
Makes your point(s) meaningless. Perhaps you would consider dropping your
tired rants and let the GM group get back to what it was before all this
started, and let people enjoy the group without your "contributions".

It seems obvious why you are a "former" automotive technician then. If you
can't get any better life out of an American vehicle than that, it says a
great deal about your automotive skills. Too bad. So many of us have had
no problems getting 200,000 plus out of American vehicles.

1997 Dodge Caravan ES traded at 135,000 miles

Take a look at this: http://www.shortnews.com/start.cfm?id=71808

And I know this is true because the guy's shop is in my hometown.
Believe me, there have been all kinds of reports/interviews, etc.
around here. Yet somehow it fails to make national news....
And just think, 1 guy can do this in his own shop, yet the big
automakers "can't" do this with their thousands of engineers and
billions of dollars??? Hmmmmm........

ok, now it makes sense. he is running E-85.

so it is getting 110 mpg on the gasoline in the mix, and -105 mpg on the
ethanol in the mix.
