They did a test on 60 minutes or 20/20 can't remember. The drunks were far better than the distracted drivers
Think about it...you are drunk but focusing as best you can on the road trying not to get booked. When distracted, these people were tested using cell phones, changing radios, writing down simple notes, checking maps...not even looking at the possible collision.
They didn't even try and avoid, full speed crashes, certain death. At least the drunks put the brakes on or swerved out of the way.
My brother in-law was just killed by an unlicenced mexican peice of in Texas...on a cell phone. Totally avoidable.

sorry to hear about your brother in law man, my grandmother was killed about 4 years ago by a drunk driver who blew through a stop sign. avoidable, yes, but some people jsut have too good a time and dont know where to stop and cant use common sense and spend 20 or 30 bucks on a cab ride home or call for a ride.
they did the same test on top gear, drunk driver tired sober old young, i believe the tired guy did the worst

damn z-tuned... sorry to hear about your brother-in law.
the drunk driving vs. sober thing is probably true. i knew someone who would take a cd album (4 cd/per side one), put it on his lap and fully flip tthrough like 15 20 pages while driving. lets just say i didnt want to ride in that car...

The problem is nobody cares what the real issue is. Let me play the boys in blue for a minute and say that street racing IS the problem...What the hell does that have to do with my modified car?!?! Sure it's modified, but what about all these people in stock Cobalts, Civics, Mustangs, BMW's, etc. that are running into each other. The problem is irresponsible drivers, not modified cars.

Yeah thanks for the sympathy guys...it was just so stupid. Cellphone + speeding in contruction zone in an already unstable 4x2 Tundra. It has calmed me down on the roads a lot.
The problem is just bad judgement. I have done stupid things but I think if I ever got into an accident it would be poor decisions of others that caused it. I am a firm beleiver that speed doesn't kill, poor judgement does.
I troubles me to see how wack the depth perception of some drivers is too. And some don't even look around before they pull out. It happens to me every day at this intersection by my house...drivers expect traffic from the busy side but none from my side, so they don't even fuc'kin LOOK as they roll the stop sign.
I just step on it and go around them, horn/highbeams optional depending on my mood.

this thread is wicked...so many people trying to defend street racing. looking to drunk and preoccupied driver as a way to make themselves feel better. dont't worry, i'm sure these arguments will hold up in court when you dummy a family cause you wanted to look cool peeling out of palazzo.
