Yes, its possible for a cobalt to be beaten by you due to poor driving given the ET that you posted. However, with 10 mph trapspeed advantage over you, a cobalt driver has a lot more room for error. My friend's cobalt trapped 98 mph bone stock. It is at 105 mph now with intake/exhaust/pulley.

A Z24 and a Civic SIR is a drivers race, they weigh the same have close hp numbers (150 to 160) the only real advantage is the tq on the cavy (155 vs 113) to get off the line faster. A properly launced Z24 will grab 1- 1.5 cars off the line on a SIR the whole time the Civic is playing catch up, and yes if you race long enough it will catch up and pass the cav, because of its power coming high in the power band. This has been done many times, its a DRIVERS race.

About the cobalt vs the civic, it is believeable if it was a non-ss/sc it couldve been jsut the regular ss with the 2.4L 174 hp variable ecotec, i could easily see that happening. If it was a ss/sc then nice kill, but jsut watch out for them once the owners start getting the factory upgrades. stage 1 and 2 have been released recently.
Stage 2 is $750 and includes a enough to put the car into high to mid 13s. Im jsut saying dont hate on the cobalt because stock the 06 honda civic si came close with 197 hp, but what upgrades are honda offering?
