i had a z24, and now have a civic.
my cavy would eat stock si easy. and it was automatic. dont underestimate them. mine with some bolt ons and a 75 shot was running high 13s. i sprayed that motor for 2 years and then i sold the car to a friend, thaty still drives the car with no problems at all. that shows how good these motors are doing. the only reason going with a civic was weight savings and easy mods. come on guys how many of you know 10 sec streetable cavys? i know many civics and if you look closely or go out a bit you ll see them. or hide from them.

both cars are incredible, and as for the ss , its so good looking of a car, im thinking of buying one. and all the options it has. its either that, an srt4 or maybe go a bit broke and get an sti. really i cant decide.

ya but you know whats funny jamesconner87 you have spent thousands of dollars to make your piece of fast and I have just made car payments to have a fast car already. and I could bring some balts out and other domestics that will make your car look like it's standing still.

2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS (Supercharged) $24,195
Curb Weight - 2970 lbs
Test Weight - 3145 lbs
Horsepower - 205 bhp @ 5600 rpm
Torque - 200 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm
1/4 mile - 14.8 @ 96.8 mph

2006 Honda Civic Si - $26,080
Curb Weight - 2880 lbs
Test Weight - 3060 lbs
Horsepower - 197 bhp @ 7800 rpm
Torque - 139 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm
1/4 mile - 15.0 @ 95.6 mph

if it were me, i'd still choose the civic over the cobalt, why? for only 2 grand more you can have the peace of mind over issues such as build quality, reliability, but more importantly ... DEPRECIATION. i'll be happy to know that my car won't be worth as much as a mcdeal at mcdonalds 5 years down the line as most chevy's are now-a-days.

man i love ur quote at the bottom hahaha...........

Remeber you are the owner of a 2000's crapalier with a 22.2 sohc with a auto. Not to mention the fast and furious insprired tuning stripes lol.

Id shut up if I were you.

even though the 1/4 mile time isn't that much over the honda i still choose the SS just because it can kick it and all the while be soo much more classy then the civic. Plus new civic is too high for me should sit lower to the ground and be a little shorter looks like vw bug.

I agree with you :smilie_da

The build quality of the cobalt is just as good as the civic , not to mention GM makes reliable drivetrains so thats not an issue at all. What are american cars rolling off barret jackson auction blocks for? More then most honda drivers will make in 20 years. A civic SI will never fetch anything in 30 years.

x2 to that as well, though I dont really hate civic much, there's possibilities in that car, and I'm pretty sure they'll show in auctions, in the near future

civtegra90 08-12-2006 10:58 PM

Not sayin GM doesnt make realiable drivetrains, but they dont really make too many of them themselves. The ecotecs are german (Opel I believe), The duramax is made by Izuzu. Optra, Aveo, and epica are all Daewoo. Vibe is Toyota.

That new VVT V6 motor (which IS all GM) is a friggin farce, LMAO, what were they thinking? Although those old 3.8s and the allison trannys are amazing stuff.

Also, hey Lowbalt, u ever end up running ur car at a track? Just curious to what time it ran.

sirguy01 08-12-2006 11:51 PM

future for honda's

I think type R's and other imports will be legendary... give it maybe another decade lol.. long time.. but i think they will become legends just like the mustangs and other muscle cars were in our parents generation. Our generation... we are based on imports... ie skyline, type r's, nsx's, rx-7's.... i cna't think of anything else that are major icons. This is nothing against the american guys, but they had their time in the past and the imports have taken over in our generation.

i myself am gonna try to find a low km type R and suran wrap it and leave it in my garage. Hopefully itll be worth something someday.

just my .02

Not yet. I have a supercharger laying around at my uncles dealer, he got it off a salvage vehicle, but the kit include's everything. So I'm gonna run it supercharged till I get a decent turbocharger kit (hoping a proper one comes out by the holidays).

I'm gonna take it to a track after that. Maybe by October or so.

That way I'll have a better setup

2.2 Ecotec
GMPP Supercharger Kit
-Custom Downpipe + 3" piping +Flowmaster 40 series Exhaust
- 2.8" pulley
- cold air intake
- mayber bigger injectors,
-stg2 computer flash by hptuners

Aiming for 280-320 hp on that when I dyno it.

Nastyzed 08-13-2006 02:37 PM

The ecotec was not a opel engine. It was developed by GM Powertrain division. The duramax is a big pile of junk a total warrenty nightmare. Yes that is a ISUZU motor. The GM 6.2 was alote better on the reliablility part.

Best GM engines

3800 series ( internals changed with every design but always proved to be number 1)

Aluminum head GEN II 2.8,3.1,3.4, (dohc) all great motors

2.5 iron duke ,gutless but a great motor none the less.

ANY SBC from the begining till now.

4.3 vortec/non both great engines and is a 350 with 2 cyls chopped off.

Those are motors I have personal experiance with so thats all I can speak for.
